All Souls' Day

Jules Bastien-Lepage (1848-1884)
All Souls' Day c.1882
Oil on canvas, 46 × 55 cm
Museum of Fine Arts, (Szépmüvészeti Múzeum) Budapest

Bastien-Lepage died very young at 36

His style was naturalistic and realistic but there are seen the effects of the influence of the Impressionists.

Studies of simple rural life attracted him.

Degas once called Bastien-Lepage "the Bouguereau of naturalism"

His exactitude for detail leads almost to photographic effects.
